Let’s talk some exciting news.

Fight or Fright! - Releasing Digitally on June 24th!

The Cover for Fight or Fright! Inspired by classic packaging for Halloween Costumes

Fight or Fright!, The Halloween Trick-or-treating Halloween about kids with magical costumes, possessed decorations, and scoring candy is releasing digitally on itch.io! The game is releasing during the annual KiwiRPG Week, a celebration of Tabletop Creatives from Aotearoa New Zealand.

In this game for 3-6 players, including a Master of Candies, you take on the roll of trick-or-treaters caught out by The Great Witch’s Thrall, a mysterious magical enchantment that brings the numerous and frightful Halloween decorations to life! This powerful magic has a side effect, granting you the powers and abilities of your costume inspiration, no matter who they are!

But this power isn’t without it’s costs. Use it carelessly, or indulge too much, and you’re at risk of losing yourself to The Thrall.

It’s up to you to save your homes, defeating the possessed Jack O’ Lanterns and Plastic Skeletons that oppose you, and maybe, just maybe, you’ll score some candy along the way.

The Game

Fight or Fright! uses 4d6 and linked dice pools to represent the two sides of your character - the costume’s power, and the kid underneath. Dice shift between these two pools as players act, or fall into a plight pool, where characters must risk rolling the dice to either regain some of their abilities, or slip under the control of the enchantment.

The game was developed over the Wait, Roll That Again! podcast, and the upcoming second season will act as a sort of long-form Design Commentary for the game, exploring how it got to the final stages of design, and some of the conversations I had with other game designers that helped influence it. I’ll let you know when that is!

KiwiRPG Week - June 23rd to June 29th

KiwiRPG week is an annual celebration of TTRPG designers, podcasters, streamers, and other creatives! Last year, I launched the first season of Wait, Roll That Again! during the week, and this year, I figured I’d release the game I’ve been working on since then!

But that’s not all, this year’s KiwiRPG week has a special main event, 7 days of Streaming! Each day the week is running, a different group of KiwiRPG streamers will be running a game made by a local creator. Games like Deathmatch Island, Monster of the Week, D12GO, and…Fight or Fright!

On Wednesday, June 26th, Fight or Fright! will be run by the awesome Master of Candies LiquorWitch, along with a great crew from Aotearoa. NZST: 8pm-11pm , London: 9am-12pm, New York: 4am-7am.

I’ll share a VOD of the AP once it’s all done! You can find a link to the channel right here:

I can’t wait to share this game with you! I’ll be posting more about it here and on socials during the release and KiwiRPG week.

Speaking of socials, all this month I’ve been posting over on Tiktok, covering a different game from the TTRPGs for Palestine Bundle over on itch, supporting Medical Aid for Palestinians. You can check out the games I’ve been covering over there, and go check out that bundle to support a good cause!
